ALBUM REVIEW & VIDEO- Pistol Annies “Hell on Heels”
What’s better than Miranda Lambert in all of her talented, girl power glory? Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angeleena Presley in all of their talented, girl power glory! Together, they make up the Pistol Annies and their debut album “Hell on Heels” is everything that is good about music, country music in particular. On this album, there is an anthem for every woman. And, if you’re a man, you could benefit from these 3 girls’ insight as well.
Love, loss, drugs, losing your man to hunting…there’s a little bit of everything on this record. And by love, we mean a family that rushes a young bride to the alter because she’s pregnant in “Beige”. And, by loss, we mean a family who is fighting over the estate of a deceased loved one in “Family Fued”. From “Hell on Heels” to “Housewife’s Prayer” these women touch on so many different aspects of what it means to be a woman. It’s a different approach to music,…a real one. We found ourselves with chills at several points during the course of listening to this album, due to the raw honesty and supreme delivery.
We really love that these are 3 young women supporting each other and lifting each other up, which is in direct contrast to what we are used to seeing in the media these days. They’re strong women who aren’t apologizing for it.
And, you know when you have something that you wish you could say but the little voice inside tells you not to? Apparently, when you sing it, you can say anything. That’s why we love these women!
